what is it that makes someone good looking? handsome? cute? pretty? hot? ugly? vile, etc?

also-why is it that good-looking girls look even better with glasses? 😛

Basically good looks have to do with symmetry. The more semetrical a face is, the better looking one will find it.

A female's body has a hip - waist - chest ratio. Marlyn Monroe had the perfect ratio as does Kate Moss. So, it's not the size that matters, it's the ratio. I believe it is that the waist is 66% the size of the hips. The chest is the same as the hips. (I could be wrong with the % though).

Female's find 'rougher' looking men more attractive whilst they are ovulating.

These are all facts you can read in many different studies.

I like girl's who's eyes sparkle when the smile. I like full lips and full arses.

ah, is that why I am attracted to you guppy? :-)
It is strange that the difference between percieved beauty and ugliness is a matter if cm?
I find that I am attracted to some men upon meeting them bacuse of their looks and nice body. But when I get to know a man, if he is witty, intelligent, kind, and a good chess player, I think he is the handsomest man in the world! I also find that those handsome hunks out there can very often been the most unappealing creatures on earth.

And if I meet a lady who is intelligent, beautiful, kind and has a great pair of eyes, It is my lucky day, and if she happens to be a good chess player too . BINGO - she must own a top computer and a copy of Chessmaster 10K

what we percieve as good looking is patially inbuilt and partially learnt but all boils down to reproduction. Instinctivly guys look for girls with traits to be fertile, able to carry many children etc. Likewise, girls look for guys who'll give them strong offsproing and be able to protect them. Because we've evolved a bit from animals we learn other traits that we find atractive, which we characterise as 'sweet' and 'cute' instead for just 'attractive'.

Glasses, as hair length/style can change the apparent shape of a persons face which can make them appear better looking. It may also be that you have learnt to assosiate glasses with girls you like or another trait you like (eg studiousness)

Agreeing with the above, I think a lot gets drummed into you at an early age.

Also taste is driven my the media a lot also, by exposure our tastes are changed and manipulated. Models in the early 90's looked like heorin addicts, bony, skinny, snd if you are honest about 14 years old. Now you see a move towards curves again. Look at the great beauties of the the 18th century and they would just be classified as "fat" probably by todays standards.

Same with men really, is David Beckham the "god" that many women in the UK claim, of have they just been brain washed into believing he is that good looking?

The big question of course for the Brits is will "ugly" men become more attractive due to the Rooney effect?

I'm not quite sure I agree with this symmetrical theory... for instance I think two of the most attractive women around are Angelina Jolie and Gina Gershon. And I dont find Kate Moss to be attractive at all.

Also, brains has a lot to do with it. Gillian Anderson doesn't seem that sexy to me... but Dana Scully sure was!

Oh, yes, he is the god. :-) But godliness is in the eye of the beholder. I am just as attracted to Brad Pitt, Rooney, Jeff Goldblum, and any other manner of man who intellectually and or physically stimulates me.
erm......I think I need a cold shower now :-)

All the girls in my class started liking Orlando Bloom right after the most popular girl did. All the guys like Paris Hilton without peer pressure though.

After thinking about it for a while, here's my top 5 list of attractive famous females and my top 5 list of attractive famous males.
I will note however that even though I admit that the males are attractive, I wouldn't want to kiss them!

Females:
5. Frances McDormand
4. Juliette Lewis
3. Julia Swahala (Daughter from Absolutely fabulous)
2. Drew Barrymore
1. Kate Winslet

Males
5. Ewan McGregor
4. Ian McKellen
3. Sean Connery
2. Viggo Mortensen
1. Sean Bean

I have to conclude that when it comes to men I seem to have a disposition for dirty finger nails and medievil clothing (what sort of pervertedness is this...I'm off to see my shrink....) and when it comes to women...I just have incredibly good taste!
