Good luck

Someone has touched on this subject before,but I am so frustrated I have to bring it up again.

I wish my opponent good luck at the start of each game unless I know the person well and he doesnt need luck(Rhymester,T1000,David Tebb,Belgian Freak,Shougi etc.)

80% of the people never respond to my well wishes.Why?Because they are afraid to be distracted during the game?Bull!It is not like they are going to give their queen away with their first move.They dont have any manners.Thats it.All there is to it.

I wont talk to you after my initial good luck unless you start the conversation.I respect the fact that some people prefer silence.But please,respond,any responce.Tell me to go to hell and mind my own business if you like.That will be better than the cold silence which follows my friendly words.

I will not be saying anything to people I dont know anymore.I will however respond should you ask a question,wish me good luck etc.my mother taught me to respect people.All people,even if the dont know e4 from e5.

I have the same thoughts, but have actually discovered that not everyone is familiar with the 'message' feature, especially if they're new here.

They see my message to them, but haven't figured out how to send a message back. If they are real new, I politely mention how to send messages, in case they don't know.

Not being too familiar with the english language could also be a factor.

Well, I know I've forgotten to type in my message before making my move quite a few times. And then next time i log in, I forget they typed something to me in the first place 😳.



Of course, i usually end up remembering 5 or 6 moves later, but it does lead to a fairly stuttery conversation.

The most annoying people are those who challenge you, give themselves White, don't bother to say anything with their first move, don't respond to your greetings, take an eternity over each move, get into a lost position, take even more time to move, go on holiday, play even slower when they return, get into an absolutely hopleless position, offer a draw, write an angry message when you turn it down, offer another draw, get even angrier when you decline again, play even slower, go on another holiday, return... and make several more futile moves, before being checkmated.

They then ask if you'd like to play them again.

I think that if you have written a profile that is often sufficient introduction... unfortunately there are far too many players with no profile. There is such a range of ages/types of people on this site that it helps to know a little bit first before starting a conversation.
