So admired Serena Williams’ words of praise for Simona Halep after being beaten by her at the women’s final at Wimbledon

“Yea, she really played out of her mind, congratulations Simona. It was a little bit of a deer in the headlights moment for me ...”

Ever had a moment like that yourself?

@drewnogal
I hope I'm a gracious loser ... I've had plenty of practice.

"A moment"? Gosh. I've lost count of how many deers I've killed with my car.

Actually, they would have ran into your car! 😉 So in reality killed themselves!

I've been losing my whole life so I'm bound to start winning and when that happens I will NOT be humble. 😏

I play a lot of over the board chess.
Recently I was playing in a league match for my club.
When my opponent sat down he could barely see over the board.
He was 11 years old.
I found out later he had been a chess prodigy, taught himself to play at 4 years old and had a high rating.
Anyway I knew none of this and played in a somewhat cavalier manner sacrificing pawns to get an attack going.
He easily rebuffed my attack and I realised we were heading into an endgame with me 2 pawns down. Of course by this time I knew I was not playing your average 11 year old.
I desperately tried to sacrifice a rook in an attempt to get stalemate but he saw my trap and ignored it.
My position was hopeless and I resigned. I extended a hand, mumbled well played ,and slunk off into the night steeped in shame.

Humility is overrated.

I like to appear humble, with undercurrents of pronounced arrogance.

I like to appear arrogant: With overriding indications of profound humility. 🙂

I like to appear drunk. With memory lapses of the night before.

Last night after we downed that bottle of vodka did we, in that bar, in front of everyone. Krist.
My memory is shot but please tell me we didn't.
