Full count and 2 outs with the bases loaded in the first, Xavier Nady of the stupid Mets up to bat and he swings and hits a bomb to deep center field. Aaron Rowand of the Phillies runs at full speed all the way, knowing the wall must be getting near. He makes the incredible over the shoulder catch and promptly slams face first into the wall, breaking his nose and gushing blood. medical staff rushes onto the the field and manages to hold the bleeding enough to get him to the hospital. He gave it his all make that catch and saved three runs from being scored.
The Phils won 2-0 in a rain shortened game, his catch saved at least 3 runs. At least 5 of the players on the field are quoted as saying they were greatly inspired and knew they wouldn't and could't lose that game now after witnessing that greatness.
We always see the Mays over the shoulder catch shown as the greatest, this has to rank up there with it. If you havn't seen it, watch it, it shows you a guy who plays with everything he has, how baseball is meant to be played.
I don't know a website that has it, but if anyone finds it please post it

Originally posted by PocketKingsi think if 7 innings were played it would be better, theres still so many things that can happen after 5. i know theres something like 160 games a season and they don't want to replay any but the game might cost the ny mets a playoff spot and a lot of money.

Now that was a catch! And he didn't need a glove (or whatever you call it).
Yes, I am sure the baseball one was spectacular, but I believe because of lack of a glove, this one was harder.

Greatest catch? I think it was Barry Larkin back in the late 1980's. It was during a horrible losing streak by the Reds. They were all tied up in the bottom of the 9th in St. Louis with a runner on second base. The batter hit a single into left field to Paul O'niel. The runner on second should have scored easily, but lost track of the ball and inexplicablly froze at second base. However, Paul did not even look at the runner. Instead he ran up to the ball and kicked it as hard as he could in disgust because he thought that the game was over. Fortunatly it was a perfect punt to Barry at short stop and saved the game.......well at least for that inning. They ended up blowing the game the next inning anyhew. Funny thing was, was that Paul disappeared from the line up for about a week after that stunt. It may not have been the greatest catch I ever saw, but it certainly was the funniest.
