Spotify without any ads or need to install anything? What's the catch?

Well, just at first glance two things annoy me:

I can't seem to bring up an entire album, or if you can I can't work it out, it's not intuitive at all. I had to add each tune separately to the playlist.

It doesn't save my searches (might need to make an account?)

What do you mean? You just click the plus next to the heart/favourites sign.

For example, here:
http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/search/albums/?query=there%20is%20love%20in%20you

You can click on the plus sign on the second album to put the new Four Tet album in your 'now playing' list. To save searches I think you need an account. Still, you can listen to it without any account, but it increases functionality if you do.

Spotify's interface seems nicer at the moment, but not having ads trumps that for me.

I did not see that. I'm used to the simple drag and drop functionality of spotify. I also think graphic menus are becoming (at least to me) a thing of the past, if it's not gesturable I tend to forget what means what.
