They're sort of like hot dogs and pronounced brots. They're big in Wisconsin, soaked in beer before they're cooked. Without soaking them in anything they're kind of nasty grey things without much taste, if I remember correctly.

Brat is short for bratwurst, a fat German sausage filled with veal or maybe beef or pork or all three, along with spices and some stuff it's better not to know about.
