Ah! But the Starcaster used to be the Fender semi-hollow they made in the '70s.

Ah, ok - my ignorance of Fender guitars is legendary, since I've always favored Gibson and Ibanez. So no, it's not original, it's a cheap modern knockoff (and sounds better than it has a right to).
