If any of you haven't heard of these surnames let me explain.
Hadad is an Israeli tennis player and has played in Wimbledon in the past 2 years.
Qureshi is an Pakistani Arab tennis player who also has played in Wimbledon the past 2 years.
During these years the 2 became doubles partners. The Pakistani tennis board were disgusted Qureshi was playing with a Jew and threatened to kick Qureshi out. The 2 remained together and last year reached the 1/4 finals.
Today they were knocked out but it shows the conflict in the Middle East that peace is very possible.

The fact that there are people out there who are willing to look beyond prejudices and long seated hatreds shows that there maybe is hope that the rest of us can do the same. Like me going for a drink with a Frenchman π
He's also one individual who decided to partner one other individual in the hitting of tennis balls. Whilst commendable and good to see, I'm not really understanding how this makes peace in the Middle East very much a possibility?

It shows Arabs that not all Israelis/Jews are bad and vice versa.

Or an Apostle going for a drink with a Freethingerππ But serious now...they've done a great job and showed to the world that there can be peace between Jews and Arabs!π

I suppose it would not be germane to throw in something like "Don't do it, Legend! Do not abandon all that is real and rational!" That would be mean spirited and, well, clannish. So Kirk, up for a game of tennis?
Carry on all.

If they had gone out in the first round then all of a sudden that makes it all different??! Having enjoyed plenty of arguments and idealogical differences with my old doubles partner when we were playing at a high level I can assure you that being successful or failing as a partnership in doubles has very little to do with putting behind and accepting one's differences!!! And in any case, that's not the part that I'm meaning to take issue with - what I find incredulous is the suggestion that because they play doubles together that somehow "shows the politicians and people of Israel that if they work together they can go far".
Lets face it, it's through rather naively optimistic rose tinted spectacles an' all to think that because these two guys can do it that in any way it's possible for the two (+ more) factions to resolve their differences. It'd be a luvverly world to live in, but I really don't believe that's how our one is. For me it shows that two people of different cultures and backgrounds play tennis together, and that's warming and good to see - but it's far too big a leap to take that to the complex, embittered, difficult situation of the Middle East.
