Remember, other than when the midpoint of the needle is exactly half way between the parallel lines, the line creates a segment by cutting the circle described by the needle ends. The area of the segment varies as the chance of the needle cutting the line varies. Now, with sufficient fibre in your diet, maybe dried apricots, the result is inevitable.
