I bought a Linksys router. It acts as a hardware firewall, which is an extra measure of security since some software firewalls can be breached. But I just couldn't get the darn thing to work cause of the configurations required.

Well guess what? Linksys has this terrific website:
http://www.linksys.com/check

When you go there w/o the router hooked up, the company allows you to run a program that checks your computer for the required address ports and settings, then tells you to connect the router. Then it establishes connection with the router and configures it! Yeah, I don't know how they do that since you can't connect to the internet w/o it being configured... but apparently they can connect to your router!

So within a couple of minutes they've completely reprogrammed your router and everything works! Don't even have to reboot. 😵

If Linksys is doing this I'll bet all the companies have the same thing available.
