Ok, so I'm depressed by there being so many people in London who are gonna meet up, so I figured I'd try to organize my own. Obviously, I'm not talking about only people from heidelberg (as that would be... well, me and maybe 5 people I already know because I brought them to this site), but more for... well, anybody who can make it. The North of france is maybe 2 hours away, and there are some big German cities near here (for everybody who's looking for Heidelberg on a map: it's about 100 km south of Frankfurt). Maybe some other people (from the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria etc) could make it too.
I figured maybe a weekend would be better, as many people wouldn't be able to make it for a day. Obviously, my mom would have a heart attack if I proposed to let everybody stay over here, but there's a cheap youth hostel here, or if you don't like those there are more hotels than you can count here.
Let me know if you're interested, and I'll try to find a date and make youth hostel/hotel reservations for everyone who wants me to.
Angie
Edit: And Italians. Italians would be fun 😉
I strongly, STRONGLY recommend anyone who hasn't been to Germany to go to Heidelberg. It's the perfect intro to the country, with the town along the river Neckar, the ruined castle overlooking one side of the river and the Philosophenweg on the other. Good walks, good forest scenery, good nightlife (it's a university town). The Allies liked it so much that they sent leaflets into the town during WWII saying so, and wanting to come here after the war was over. I think the US still has a base close by.
Any places where you can play OTB chess in the parks?

There's a big chessboard with 1-metre pieces in one park, but I don't know of any others. But the teacher who leads my school's chess club also plays on rhp, maybe I could get him to come and/or give me the chess boards we have for our school. Those should be enough.
Are you two in? 😉
