I believe he actually was a professional football player in his youth.

Judging from previous fly on the wall documentaries following club managers, this may explain his colourful language 🙂

i have heard via the grape vine he played for rangers in his youth.

He did indeed play for Rangers FC, but got a nasty injury that put
him out of the game. He strikes me as too bright for a footballer anyway!
I wonder if any professional footballers are RHP members?
