Ok, so a couple of years ago, I stuck a magnet on the back of my car--not the bumper, but the painted part. Now I want it off, but it's stuck on there like cement. I was able to pull a little off, but unfortunately, it's all old and crumbly. The paint underneath seems to be fine.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get it off?

But seriously. Sounds like it's fused with the paint work. You may well have to use brute force and have a small respray on the area affected.

Originally posted by rbmorrisTry applying heat, like with a hair dryer or similar implement. If there was any adhesive residue from a price tag sticker etc. it will loosen it. Also heat and mechanical shock are two ways to disrupt the north - south alignments of the magnetic poles.

What I would suggest is that you go to a jet turbine testing site. Make sure the jet engine is running at full power and push the car gently into it taking care to keep a good grip on the magnet with one hand (you may need a friend to help you). As you push the car slowly into the rapidly spinning turbines it should chop the car up into so much pulp. If you have kept a tight grip on the magnet, and you time it just right, you should be able to have the entire car smashed away leaving you holding the magnet unscathed!!
