Boris, I suspect that you may have a rogue RUN entry or two in your Windows registry. When you restart your computer, the entry is launching a program that is immediatley grabbing the file for whatever reason.

Here are the entries to investigate:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Runonce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

I recommend scanning your system with an updated Ad-Aware followed by a scan with your updated anti-virus program.

Boris, sounds like the suggestion of a simpleton (it is), but bear with me. Restart your computer. Try and delete the file as the first thing you do after rebooting. Don't connect to the internet, don't load yer music software, don't open anything, do not pass go. It's worked for me once in the past and for a friend of mine just yesterday as it happens.

the problem is that the file I was talking about is on my external harddrive ...

I copied (by mistake, ususally move the files) from my c: drive to my external f: drive ...

I had one hell of a fight to get the original file of my c-drive but because it was located in my shared documents folder I simply took everything out and deleted the folder ... that way worked fine

The copied file is now lying on the f: drive in no folder ... I cannot move, re-name or deleted it at all... Everytime I switch the external drive on and off, the same happens (even when I am not connected to the internet) ... I just hope I haven't caught a virus

You need to perform an exorcism.

Just another in my long list of helpful suggestions. 🙂

Commendable ignoring of the Mac-Vulture's interjection there Boris 😉

http://www.avguk.com/ - should be some free anti-virus software here.
