Do you mean a pirate download or summat?
Best to buy a cd I reckon - though you could try linux - free.
Look at the site I gave you a link to above.
edit:
As it says there:
"When you upgrade such a system, Microsoft actually examines your installation, moves your documents and personalized settings to a backup location, and then performs a clean install of XP. Then, it goes back and applies those personalized settings to the new OS and moves your documents into the correct location (My Documents, which is located in a different place in XP than it was in 9x/Me). This is why it requires so much free space for the upgrade, by the way"

Hi can any one help me on how to upgrage a window 98 to xp. And if so, is the files from old window will be erased after the I upgraded?
yes the old files still exist on the PC but i found that most of them could not be opened. - installed program files were the same
backup anything you want to keep before you upgrade!!!
Originally posted by lesstaire6your files will still be intact, but a few programs may not work, you have to go to properties on the program and choose "run in 98 mode"....

are you sure the system can handle xp...???
microsoft state it's 2.5gb harddrive, 64mb, and 300mhz processer....
though personally i would go for a minimum of 5gb hardrive, 128mb ram and 500mhz processor

Sure, your space needs grow over time - but just my C:\Windows folder is 4GB now, after about 2 years use...
The CPU is not such a big deal, but I can't even think what my PC would run like if I had less than 1GB memory.
I'd say minimum for XP Pro SP2 should read 20GB hard drive, 500+MHz processor and 1GB RAM.
Originally posted by Crowleyyes, i can see where you're coming from, but i did say the minimum for xp.... this implying the lowest spec to run xp.... microsoft are infact right in this, 64mb, 2.5 and 300mhz will run xp, but it's very very slow...

if all your using a pc for is checking your email and writing a few letters 128mb will probably be fine

I wasn't disagreeing with you, only saying that no matter what the official minimum specs say, I can't see anyone actually USING the bloody thing running on those specs, or the specs you listed.
Using: This means doing more than actually just booting it up and listening to the default start-up sound and watching the desktop.
No matter what you use the PC for...
Originally posted by Crowleyyes, fair point, i did change what i said, i think we're both right what we're saying, just looking at it from different angles
