I am 67 so a GREAT fan of 60s and 70s music

T-Rex Get It on

There is a certain 'twang' or something in the rhythm on (I think, the lead guitar); can anyone who is a fan explain how this sound was achieved?

If someone with far greater expertise than me could post the song then it might help

@Martin

Only two things I can think of that give a guitar a "twang" sound.

One is a slider, a metal tube over one of the fingers of your hand that plays the chords.
The other is a weird southern style instrument that sits in your lap.

@Reekage

I am a T-Rex fan and love that 'twang' sound in Get It On - as well as the rest.

cheers

Maybe 'twang' is not quite the right description but there is a something noise/tone that has intrigued me for 50 years

Thanks Paul

No answer to my queery but don't you just love those dancing girls; God I wish I was back then again; a tad too young for the sixties, but hell, the seventies were pretty good too.

Possibly down to the guitars the band used?

@Martin
Apropos of nothing, the catchphrase 'The Twang's the Thang!' belonged to Duane Eddy. Just sprang to mind.

not a guitarist
heck, not a musician
heckfire, i cain't even clap my hands in time

but what you are hearing is marc bolan's technique of playing the chord then muffling the chord by holding the strings
it's just guitar wizardry

if you would like, i can now explain how humans are going to colonize mars, uranus, and the sun

Watch his hand and fingers - there is no movement that I can see that explains this certain noise - anyone can hear it if they listen to the track.

It is a certain sound that is all through the track - it is driving me nuts.

regarding "holding the strings" - the sound is still there even when he has his hands off the guitar

Just listened to 'Ride A White Swan'

There is a similar twang

Agree it must be a guitar thing - but how?

I would like to hear about the second and third option. But this is quite off topic. Care to establish a new thread?
