there is a four letter slang word beginning with the letter "s" ( which the brits allow on their tv...how far from victoria we have fallen..but i digress ) which refers to offal...which is a correct word referring to what is in the porcelain water bowl that mr. thomas crapper is historically identified with...this is the history of this s word...in the days of coal fired ocean ships it was thought that the use of cow dung might be cheaper to burn ( and lighter to carry ) so it was stacked in pallets in the bottom of the ship...now all ships do leak to some degree ( hence the bilge pump ) anyway..seawater got into the stacked cow patties...the methane gas began to re-emerge...sailers, going for more fuel and taking lit lanterns to the hold blew up a few ships..it was finally understood that an open flame and methane gas can blow a ship up....but they did not want to give up on the cheap and available cow patties for fuel so they were moved higher up into the ship ( away from salt water ) and marked with the proper label, to wit. Store Higher In Transit..hence the fuel became known by the acronym of the safety warning..the "s" word...

My parents, ex-headmaster and headmistress, both double docotorates of 'philosophy' and 'law and English schools' never swore. Never permitted us to swear as children. Have now succumbed to using the S word. It is a part of daily life and is therefore a norm word. It is not slang, nor is it vulgar.
Often they use the word crap, but if tv is rubbish they will mildly say ' this is S, turn over.'

As it is not vulgar, a part of everyday language and used by most ; and as you rightly point out is permitted on English tv - then why isn't it permitted on an English website such as RHP?

Political correctness gone shut again! 😲

Well when you slam your toe into the bed leg you should therefore say "Oh Damn!"..... and be civil! 😛

Also, actions are not words in the true sense.... 😉

I have read somewhere that the "s" word's biggest claim to fame is that it has been the last word ever uttered by a large percentage of people facing violent death. (That is english speaking folk of course. In the case of french speakers the word becomes "merde!"😉 Same thing, different language. Wonder how many different language renditions of the same substance we could get away with using in the forum?
