The story is fictional,as far as I know.I doubt though that the fingers of captive Englishmen would have been severed in the heat of battle,Afterall the French would have all the time in the world to do this to POWs.

Yeah, the V sign was done by the Welsh bowmen as they ran away from the French to prove they still had their fingers. . .i think that's how it goes.

I have seen the V sign on Brittish T.V. before. They blew a raspberry while their hand was moving upwards in a spiral motion with the V sign.

The french used to cut off the bowmans fingers, thus making them useless in battle. The V sign is a taunt the Welsh bowmen used as they ran away from the French.

Well, now......here's something I never knew before, and now that I
know it, I feel compelled to send it on to my more intelligent friends in the hope that they, too, will feel edified.
Isn't history more fun when you know something about it?

Before the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the French, anticipating victory over the English, proposed to cu ...[text shortened]... OPRIATE SALUTE TO THE FRENCH TODAY!

And yew thought yew knew every plucking thing!
False. This gesture was used in Roman times.
