My personal opinion is that it would be very boring to use a computer
or even a book when choosing a move. When I'm playing I never use
such things. Even though I like reading chess books, I never look in
them when playing. That wouldn't be fun. A friend helped me with one
move in my game with RigaMortus. After that I said to myself it would
be the last time someone told me a move. The only thing I allow
myself to do is setting up a position on a chess board to analyze it.
But that happens very rarely.
I play for fun. Even though I like to win and I don't like losing. I make
so many mistakes, I'm sure I can't be learning. I guess I've reached
my level of incompetence. I have "Rival", I know it would help me in
lots of games; But the challenge of playing chess would be gone and I
would quit playing. PS: I admit using it once and I fealt so bad, I
started another game against the player and resigned after three
moves to give him some of his rating points back.
Damian, you seem like a good guy. Same with all the rest of the
respondants. Bottom line is people are going to do what they're going
to do. I say...so what? My guess is most of us play honorably. For
the record, I felt guilty using a chess board so I stopped doing it. I
refer to the book for some openings as I try to familiarize myself with
them. The point is I want to continue to improve as I go along. So
let's go...Any challengers?
