After coming to Canada in, well let's just go with the mid 40s, I grew up in Quebec and starting in grade three we had an hour of French every day through High School. The French we learned in school was "France" French but used the Quebec dialect when on the streets among French Canadian friends.

There was a time in Quebec that it would be hard to find someone who would speak English to you. Now a lot has changed things are much better than they once were, but as anything else always room for improvement.

Oh I just say "morning"

'Selamat pagi' is formal, just 'pagi' is informal.

('Selamat' is a general greeting, 'pagi' is morning. Something to be emphasized or pluralized is repeated, 'pagi pagi' can mean early morning or every morning.)
