How to post pictures?

I have seen some people post pictures of chess-boards on their posts so I know it is possible to put picture images on a post in these forums but when I try and do it myself by copy and paste the paste option is always greyed out and apparently unavailable.
I tried to first make the image a device-independent binary pixel image and then copy-paste it but that only resulted in the same problem.

Can anyone tell me how to put pictures on my posts? -there are a few diagrams I would like to show people.
