inside rhp i am okay, but outside i play much better. For some reason the need to move quicker allows my brain to function better, hence making me a better chess player. Infact, i drew an Arizona state champion. When he offered me the draw, i was up by a pawn, but got scared....o well.
ANYWAY.....has anyone else encountered the same phenomenon as me??? I was just curious.

Originally posted by TDR1Nice against a state champ! I think many of us are better at chess than is shown here at RHP. I actually amaze myself playing people that 'think' they play chess. I just played some chess at a party the other day against a guy who claims to 'play chess'.

He opened with an 'a' pawn, and I had his knight and bishop by move 12. Mated with 2 bishops and a Rook after he managed to force a queen exchange around move 20?
Anyway, anyone playing chess here at RHP is probably very good compared to the people around them that don't play chess like we do. I am very surprise you got a draw against a state champ, sounds like he probably played against your abilities thinking you had none, and was surprised? That can happen also! I've played a friend who almost drew against me after I told him how much and how good I play chess... We had to play again so I could crush him, where before I tried to hard to crush him early.

Originally posted by TDR1I lost to an Arizona state champ - of 6th grade if I remember correctly. Maybe it was the same guy. We played to an endgame where he had better pawns and was able to queen.

I've beaten GM's Walter Browne and Shamkovitch. Of course they were simuls... 😀
Speaking of simuls, my best performance for giving one was at the Mott Community College. There were 30 boards set up, but admission was free, and as soon as someone lost they was replaced by another. All total, I played 77 games, winning 75 and giving up 2 draws. No losses. 🙂

I play much better OTB at actual time controls of 2 hours with 30 sec increment... 1714 cfc rating after 10 months.... 30 min chess at the club i'm pretty bad 1550 or so.... and on here after 30 some games i'm at 1600... it's hard to get an advantages against ppl on here since u can always look at books and stuff and play good opening moves and then after that just trade of u're pieces and draw the endgame... I need some more work on my middlegame i guess....
