I was listening to the Howard Stern show last week and he was talking about playing chess online. He was very upset over his poor rating. I think he was playing Blitz and the fast pace of the games was killing him. He needs to discover Red Hot Pawn where you can relax and move at a resonable rate.

Yeah, I was listening the other day when he was talking about his chess game. He plays on ICC and I'm sure the time thing is tough for him to get used to. Most beginners aren't used to playing on the clock. I'm glad he's talking about it a lot though. Hopefully it'll get more people into chess. I was thinking about calling the show and telling him about RHP. I know kirksey sent him an e-mail. It would be some great publicity for this site if he started talking about it on the air.

It sure would.

But, isn't he taking lessons over at ICC?

Kirks says he was getting help from Polgar or someone... and sounds like he ended up at Pogo or Yahoo or some other lame site.

Kirks, fix this. I would love to ban Howard from our forums. I'd send that sucker a warning too, after his ban.

It would just reinforce his sense of being a victim. He was playing on Pogo. The people that called in the show to give him encouragement were all the stupidest sounding black people you could imagine. Yet, it spite of this, Howard said that he believes that "blacks have a natural ability at chess that whites don't have." Apparently there are a lot of blacks in NYC that play speed chess and do really well at it. Anyways I look forward to one day welcoming Howard to the BWA.

6 or 7 years ago when Howard was still funny, I used to listen to him during my commute into the city.

If I was still doing that commute, I'd be thrilled that Opie and Anthony had taken his place. They're funny!

Here's some info on Howard and Chess from Judith Polgar for all of you fans:

On a sunny day in Manhattan there are a ton of African Americans ready and able to take $5 - $10 from you in a game of 5 minute and you don't have to walk too far. If you barter a little, you can usually get time odds, but you still won't win.

In my experience black people play differently. They love the psychological aspect of the game. They try hard to mess with your head. Of course, this is on the street or in a coffee or donut shop, not in tournament.
