Today was the first stage of my first tooth implant. The old root canal tooth with no crown was extracted and then I got what is called a "bone graft".
This is bone from dead people. a k a "Zombies". Once the bone graft heals it will be hard enough for me to get the next stage done, which is the titanium post and then it will attach to my new bling tooth (going with Gold 😉 )
So If Zombies run wild eating people I will be left alone because I am technically one of them. Right?
I just hope the corpse bone will help me play chess better? Like a double personality thing?
My face hurts.
To my zombie, brother. Rejoice! You will love the implant once it's done, although there will be stressful moments along the way.
In case your medical professional didn't explain, the bone graft doesn't stay. Your body absorbs it and generates new jaw. The graft is only put there as a placeholder. Because of the hole in your jaw, both gum and jaw race to fill the hole up and you want the jaw to win, so the graft keeps the hole from filling up with gum tissue to give you body a chance to absorb the calcium in the graft and generate fresh jawbone. Aren't you glad you asked?
After it heals, they'll slice it open a drill a hole straight down to put in the titanium post. This is the hardest step and could take up to 3 hours if they get the drill hole not 100% straight. Then they sew it up again to let it 'take'. The bone has to grow in around the threads on the post.
Wait a while for that to heal, then back again to slice it open again (why not just put in a small zipper?) to attach the connecting hardware where the artificial tooth will connect. Sew that up again and let it heal.
Then back one last time to make sure everything healed up properly and get the tooth connected. There, that wasn't so bad, was it? One more tip, learn to eat using the side of your mouth opposite the implant. You'll thank me later.
Have to say, zombies steer clear of me ever since getting the implant, but I do get the occassional nod and wink from the odd vampire. 😉

Mine was about $3,200. But that was a couple years ago. The couple months when you've got this metal pin sticking up out of your jaw was the most interesting. My tongue just wouldn't leave it alone. It was like: Hey, I found this sharp thing over here! Is this supposed to be here?
