...almost. I have been experimenting with ameutur rocketry for a few weeks, and have experimented cooking up my own propellant. Today, I was trying a new mixture with Potassium Nitrate, iron oxide, and nitric acid. I was cooking it on a gas burner in my garage, and just when it had reached the stage where it becomes extremely flamable, it blew up in my face. The flame only lasted about 3 seconds, but in that time, the cast iron skillet became litteraly red-hot, and my silicon spatula was completely incinerate. There is now a large hole in the roof of my garage, 8 feet above where I was cooking it.

Well sort of, believe it or not, this was actually a school project, we are having a competition as to who can come up with the best fuel. I was just more creative than most.

I did something similar with black powder in my teens. the red hot container burned through the table.

wasn't there a huge fatality rate in the early rocket experiments, which probably were a lot like you're doing now? be carefull with it, burning down the house is probably one of the better scenarios you're gonna eventually run into. assume one day something will explode, and design your safety precautions to handle that.

a couple of guys I know blew stuff up, separately, one burned some skin and the other lost his sight for a couple of months. it's all fun, but these things do happen. be sure you have things covered.

Yeah...this is something I'd want to tell the world. 🙄
