i did not serve in a combat zone. i was at army headquarters, europe, working with the vacuum tube computers moving troops out of france after degaulle decided that the american forces were not needed.

I would have done something stupid.
That was when they were getting ready to send troops to the middle east.
So basically they saved me from some international incident.
