Unless your accountant is totally incompetent it'll get picked up in the first reconciliation - then you'll have the job of convincing those in the know that you're REALLY that ignorant of your bank balance!

It could just be a bank error, and in that case it will mysteriously disappear from your account the same way that it came, whether you've tried to remove it yourself or not. Big brother will not be appeased!

My accountant has paid me twice. 😀😀

Shall I declare it, or just tell him to cover it in the books from expenses or he's sacked! 😏😏😏😏

It's my money! And I aint paying tax twice!!... 😳😳😳

LMAO.... WTF?
If you want what I think is the Biblical perspective here it is.

Nothing is wrong with taking from the rich and giving to the poor. Robin Hood for eg would be a hero in the eyes of Christ. So if your fortune is not reversed I suggest you take the money and ensure that someone without a $5,000 Rolex benefits ... 😀

Probably better in the long-term to tell them, clearly they are going to find out, so being honest about it might get you bronie points, it's not like you need the money anyway. 🙂

In most countries retaining it will be an offence under the respective Theft Act. The error may not be yours, but this is not relevant in law, and convincing anyone that you didn't notice will prove tricky. Especially if you have visited your branch or used your online account since.

As for doing the right thing or not, that is for you to judge, and neither my business nor my concern 🙂

I once got paid for a gig twice, due to a rather complicated mix-up that I won't even attempt to explain. I told them about it (which meant that I had to overcome my telephonophobia, and it was rather complicated to explain, so it was really hard work for me), finally got an account number to send it back to, and sent it back. Two weeks later it arrived on my account again. At that point I gave up and just counted myself lucky. 🙂

wth?
why would you have to prove that you didnt notice?
let them prove that you did notice. this is like impossible, even if you used your online account you can still say you didnt watch it closely...this cant be proven.

Or if you have posted about it in an internet forum. 😉

Did you paid tax for the extra amount?

I was still a highschool student at that time, and the money I earned by playing a few gigs was well below the tax limit.

If the same thing would happen here and now, the tax would most likely be deducted automatically.

A bit the other way around, but still the same.

A few years ago I called in for a vet to put my pot bellied pigs to sleep, so their chubby feet could get some proper manicure. Their nails were much too long. Three of them, quite heavy each, and the anesthesia was quite expensive and was paid by the kilo. Imagin three big chubby pigs and the amount it would cost me.

I was told afterwards I would get the bill send up. It did not arrive. I messaged this at least once, I believe even twice after a few months. Never got a reply. Oh well, then I'll just keep the money and buy the chubbies something extra.

I tried and would honestly pay if I know how much and to where. But if people do not respond then the responsibility of an honest payment is at that point in their hands.

Its your money so is your accountant really caring?

Have you checked who else he has being paying twice!!!

Do you really have 3 employees called A Smith, B Smith and C Smith who all reside at the same address as your accountants and share his bank account?

😛
