Hi out there, maybe Bowmann would answer this one.
I have gone through three wireless browsers, two made by netgear
and the latest one Linksys. I thought the problem was netgear being
just plain inferior, but the linksys is showing the same symptoms.
What happens is I go to the net or get email (IE and outlook express)
and it might be working but you come back a few hours later and
no net. It gets fixed by unplugging the power plug on the router
and letting it reset internally and the net is back.
I thought it was the router but now with two differant brands doing
the same thing, it has to be in the computer. So thinking it
has something to do with using IE, I switched to Opera.
Its only been in about 30 minutes now so can't see about the router
thing but one thing I notice about Opera, I set the home page to
google news (my wife's comp, thats what she wants) but
what seems to happen is if you X out, the next time you come back
in, it doesn't go to the home page but to the last place you visited.
Anyone know how to force it to go to the home page unconditionally?
I know my wife won't want to use it if she has to scroll back through
a half dozen pages to get to the home page.
In IE you automatically go to the home page first, THEN go elsewhere.
Went to opera site but couldn't find much about this little tidbit.
So on the first issue, has anyone else had these router dropouts,
and on the second, how do I get opera to unconditionally go to
the home page. Thanks for your help.

I use the Norwegian version, so I am not sure how all the stuff is called in English, but go to the menu left of "Help" (maybe "Options" or so). At the bottom of the list is something which might be called "Properties". On the first page which pops up (probably called "General" ), you'll find different options for starting up.

I went to properties and set the home page to news.google but
it doesn't go there, it goes to the last place you visit. Maybe there
is a sub-heading for this. Can't fiddle with it now, am 80 miles from
home ATT.

I'd say that it has absolutely nothing to do with the type of browser you're using, sounds a lot more like an issue with your connection settings on your computer or an issue with your ISP.

Above the field in which you write the homepage address, there should be a field with a drop-down menu where you can choose whether you want to start up with the homepage or from where you left (plus some other options).

Ah, "tools". Makes sense. It's "verktøy" in Norwegian, which surprisingly enough means "tools". πŸ™‚

Yeah, found that and made my homepage google news and
it goes to it but first it goes to the last place visited. You have
to back up till you find home page which is crazy.
Also, my wife reports it (the router) goes bonkers whether I am on
opera or IE, so it has to be something in the comp like one of you
said, connection settings or ISP. The funny thing is the cable modem
box seldom has to be reset, just the wireless router.
I am thinking to make my wife's comp a wireless and hardwire another comp to see if that makes a diff.
Don't understand why the hardwired cat 5 cable which now goes to
my wifes comp would have any interaction with the router.
I guess it must so it seems logical to hard wire another comp and
make this one wireless, if the problem goes away, I have it nailed
but we'll see.
