Advice: Lose for about two years, and by then you should be in pretty good shape. 🙂
I lost to my dad for a year and a half before I finally beat him, and then it took me a week to beat him again, and now I beat him in about 20 moves, lol. It just takes practice and well some reading if you're up for it. Good luck to you. 😉

Hello unauthorisedcopy,
I have taken a look at some of the games you have played so far. Not going to tell you exactly what to do in those games (as they are still in progress), but here are some tips. It is generally best to play towards the centre. Maybe start with either d4 or e4 (if playing white). Bring out Knights before bishops. Think about each move before you play. Are any of your pieces threatened without any backup protection? Look out for forks (e.g. more than one valuable piece being attacked at the same time). Forks where one of the pieces is a king is especially dangerous.
With every move you make, check this list;
-What is the reason my opponent made his last move?
-Can i do something about his plan?
-Is the piece i am about to move doing something on it's spot? Can i safely move it without something bad happening the next few moves?
-Is the spot i'm moving my piece to a safe spot?
Don't forget to check if your piece is defending anything, of being defended at it's new spot.

The list above, its a good one - try using that as well, even cut and paste it into your notebook.
