I got this email from a stranger asking me to connect with this linkedIn thing. I usually just trash such mail out of hand but wonder if this is legit, anyone ever have experience with this so-called social network? Why would a stranger send me such a thing?

LinkedIn is not so much social networking as it is business networking.

It is a reputable and well known site.

So it won't link my comp to some assshole in Liberia then, I would feel safe answering that email? If it is legit maybe there is job or business related contacts I could take advantage of, assuming it's legit.

I'd check the email headers to make sure it's really coming from LinkedIn. There are reports of phishing attacks pretending to be coming from LinkedIn. If you don't know the guy inviting you to join, it may be something other than what it appears to be.

Actually even if it is not legit you will have a hard time going after the guy, just delete it and ignore that.

Totally. If you don't know where it's coming from just delete it.

Yeah, I took a chance, which I rarely do, and found out it was legit, a contact I had made several years ago made the link so in THIS case it was ok.
