I got an Ipod nano back when they were first released. Back then you couldn't buy an equivalent amount of flash memory for cheaper than the Ipod. I don't think I got ripped off.

Originally posted by SeitseiPod, in my opinion, sucks. i don't know if you can calculate it, but if you can, good. i saw a 20GB Creative Zen Micro for roughly $200 USD, and a 4GB iPod for roughly $300 USD. WTF? (World Tiddlywinks Federation, in case you're wondering.)
Ok, not a wizard in these matters myself, so I would treasure
any insight.
For less than 150 euros, I would like to go for one
of those things like an iPod (just as a note: I don't use Macintosh
so I don't know if that is a limitant).
What do you recommend, mates?
Originally posted by DJSotoThe Zen Micro doesn't come in 20GB versions. The Zen does. However that's hard drive based not flash based which means you can't compare it to the Nano and instead should compare it to the plain Ipod.

The advantage of flash memory is that it is solid state. You can't go jogging with a hard drive based player (at least without running the risk of destroying it).

wait wait wait, what's the difference between hard drive and flash??
Flash memory is what you see in USB drives, camera memory sticks etc. Basically it's a small chip that holds the information. Very resistant to shock and much smaller than a hard drive (both in dimensions and capacity).
