What would inspire a person to cheat (assuming he’s guilty that is) to be the top player on an Internet chess site? What satisfaction could someone draw from such hollow victories? Do you suppose we will ever here from him... on his own defense, or to rail aginst the site/game mods?
I doubt we will hear from him again.

he may have been doing it to get better at the beautiful game. using a database and a computer as a guide is a nice way to improve...
BTW, on the other site where his handle was Dante, he had something
like a thousand games going there too, so the arguement he didn't
have time to play at that high a level goes double.

Except that it seems he had not played in a competitive event since 1993.
but if he was as good a chess player as was rumoured before his fall then i doubt it was his ego. he may not have been the best on the site, but he was still meant to be rather good, was he not?
Originally posted by geniusMaybe he wanted people to think he was the best, not merely really good. It did work for a while, didn't it?

Originally posted by no1marauderi suppose. but hey-i'd be happy with just "really good". i mean, if i could beat everyone at my local (aka, st andrews uni union) i'm be more than happy! (the slight fact that it is populated by some rather fine, although often drunken, minds makes the appeal of victory greater...)

I believe he comitted this act due to the unrequited love he has for a fine woman. By excelling in the field of CC he believed he could win her heart. Now he is just going to have to hang around outside her place in the hope that she will catch a glimpse of him... :'(
