We had a thread about it a few years ago: Thread 37784
Actually most of the thread is about who would be interested in reading or discussing "Ishmael" or "My Ishmael" and when we should start etc.... But there's a little bit of discussion towards the end. (I had meant to join into that and then never got around to it...)

I read it almost 20 years ago, I think. I enjoyed it very much - mostly because it was it was such a refreshing contrast to the rabid fundamentalist christian ideology I'd always been surrounded by and it really resonated with me.
