Unfortunately the lung development needed to be a strong soprano carries with it the buildup of a lot of bulky muscles. Apparently the first thing you lose is your waistline!

Wagnerian sopranos are always huge. I was at Bayreuth in 1984 when Hildegarde Behrens was Brunnhilde in her first Ring, and she was normal-sized. Five years of singing Brunnhilde and she was a battleship.

Actually it was a rule when we were putting down others wives made by RUSS himself if memory serves me correctly.

Even the TWINS wives are out of bounds in this case.

What is good for one is good for all in my humble opinion.

I believe I've said that in the past that she would have to be a saint to be married to him. 🙂
