I can download music from itunes, but when I try to burn a disk, I keep getting a message saying an "unknown error has occurred (4310)". Does anybody know what this is, or how to fix it?
Thanks.

When I look at the files, it says they're m4p files.

Windows System Error Codes (exit codes)
Date Updated 02/27/2005
Versions affected Automize 4.x+
OS affected Windows
Description The Command and WinCommand task sometimes do not return any error messages, when your batch files fail. These task return error codes, which do not mean much to the user. The table below describes these Error codes
Causes Windows does not return error messages all the time.

Code Description
0 The operation completed successfully.
1 Incorrect function.
2 The system cannot find the file specified.
3 The system cannot find the path specified.
4 The system cannot open the file.
5 Access is denied.
.
.
.
4310 The media identifier does not represent a valid cleaner

Solution: Try a clean CD (buy new ones) as they can get old. If it still doesn’t work, uninstall iTunes and redownload it from Apple (). You can linke up all your old music files (.m4a files), they’re not deleted. Just find them, highlight the folders, and drag them to the “Library” on iTunes after installing the new iTunes.

Hope this helps

Sounds most likely.

The iTunes support forums on the apple website will probably have an answer aswell.

Thanks. Yeah, I saw that online. Since I'm using brand new CDs, I don't think that's the problem. Unfortunately, itunes doesn't offer much in the way of online help. I think dk3nny's suggestion may be the way to go. I'll give it a shot anyway. Thanks. 🙂 This is bugging the hell out of me.

The other option is to just not use Itunes. It's terrible. Try Winamp, or if you're just after a burner, I recommend Nero (PC) or Roxio Toast (Mac).

Oh yeah - just remembered, I think m4p files are the Protected files - i.e. you can only play them through the Itunes that you bought them....

You need to try and get a convertor (probably illegal) to get them to either AAC, mp4 or mp3 files. I think even m4a files are O.K. too.
