I've just seen that his rating is a stunning 1780... I have to say that I'm very dissapointed that this side is taking no action against such obvious cheating... Hell, this bloke has played around 1100-1300 for a long long time and now he's close to 1800... Common Russ, do RHP and all of us a favor and take action
Kind Regards

Here here! Well said! I know this is ANOTHER James Woodley thread but something has to be done Russ. If James is allowed to continue cheating in such a blatent way it is just a sign for other engine users that it is alright to do it and soon RHP will be swamped with even more engine users. Something HAS to be done before James starts influenceing other players.

With all due respect Boris , I believe it is well possibly to improve your ranking by that amount in a short space of time, without having to cheat. While I fully believe there are quote a few players that cheat (no idea why), a mere increase in ratings can indicate one of many things... playing fewer games, studying a chess book, using database for chess openings ect, taking more time to move.. I've gone from 1200 to 1500 simply by taking my time for moves(as silly as that sounds). I could well imagine any player being coached, or studying a book could suddenly improve his/her ranking.

1500 to 1800 maybe
1800 - 2100 no chance
I have been playing chess for over 20 years and have been teaching chess for almost a decade. I have never seen a single person improving in such a short time (especially not after having been on a 1100-1300 level for quite some time) ...
He IS cheating and the fact that nothing is been done is very bad publicity for RHP ...

Originally posted by The Slow PawnActually I believe you can improve your rating quite considerably if you change the tactics in a huge way and I am going to give this a go in the Spring. At the moment, I play far too many games, I don't have much time to play them and I never use books or databases. Now it has finally dawned on me, that many players here play correspondence chess the way it is supposed to be played, which is totally the opposite to the way I have been playing it. Maybe I am a bad player, but we shall see next year. Maybe I could even get a win from the Slow One then!

Originally posted by pcaspianTo an extent this is true. However 1700's here are good - the difference in play between a 1400 and a 1700 is vast, just in general ability to select candidate moves and identify the opponents threats. I really do not think it can be overcome ina very short period of time through any didactic methods - there would be an intermediary plateau stage rather than a rush straight upwards.

But as has been pointed out, JW has not just improved, he has developed an entirely new playing style. Strangely one that is incredibly similar to a certain chess engine.

Originally posted by pcaspianI guess we can add another miracle to those in the Bible that you believe in. Perhaps we could amend the New Testament to include the Book of Woodley which would consist entirely of "As a result of this sequence of moves, White's mobility is lessened. Additionally, My pawn structure is a little stronger, and White's pawn formation is somewhat disrupted. Also, the pressure on White's King is slightly increased, and the pressure on my King is eliminated" and other similar sacred writings in the natural language of JamesMaster10000.

every forum is polluted with james woodley, come on russ its time for the red card!
very strange. I'm sure i'm even or slightly better in both my games versus woodley, and i'm SURE i can't beat chessmaster 10,000 (i've been playing for about 18 years or so). It depends on how old he is to improve, how he's picked up some principles from some books, or might be playing computers alot. I've learned a lot from playing computers (gambit chess, chess champion <-- AMIGA 500 LOL, chessmaster 5-8000), especially openings and defending against tactical shots. His rating can easily go to 1700 by playing slower and managing his games better and learning from the greats 😛 (My System! Still the best book! lol). If he gets to 2000....oiy!
