The H stands for Harold, as in: "Our Father, who art in heaven, Harold be thy name"

I'm kinda doubting the man had a middle name to begin with.

You'd have to ask the wise guy who first said it, and since I don't have a clue who that was, I have no clue what the H stands for, either.

Edit: Even Cecil Adams doesn't know:

This response was me in a "duhhhhh" moment.

The obvious answer is that no, H. is not his "middle initial", since "Christ" is not his "last name".

Christ is a title, coming from the Greek, meaning "anointed". It means the same thing as Messiah, which comes from Hebrew and Arabic, meaning "anointed".

What I find interesting is that, supposedly, "Jesus H. Christ" was old even in 1850, according to Mark Twain.
