What language is dominant? What's the name of the country and the people? Where did the legal system come from? What are the cultural values and assumptions? What is the state religion if any? What is the most common religion if not?
Also look at the names of the local gangs, the streets and cities and mountains and other geographical features...
These are where the cultures show themselves I think.
Now that I'm on this line of thinking...for Los Angeles:
What language is dominant?
English
What's the name of the country and the people?
An English name.
Where did the legal system come from?
England.
What are the cultural values and assumptions?
English.
What is the state religion if any?
None.
What is the most common religion if not?
Protestantism i.e. Anglo-Germanic Christianity
Also look at the names of the local gangs
Generally Spanish or English based names. There are the Aztecs though. The Mongols too but they're not Asians.
EDIT - Organized crime is controlled by "La eme" aka "the Mexican Mafia". Top dogs in the underworld have partially indiginous (to Mexico) name...
