Ok so i just watched the remake of Karate Kid with Will Smiths nipper (don't ask what a 31 year od man is doing watching this...i wanted to see how rubbish it was compared to the original). Well, it's actually quite good (am i really saying this?)

They replaced the 'Crane' kick with a physics defying back flip kick with a broken leg, but hey.... Its a movie! One thing, why is the "Karate" Kid learning Kung fu? 😕

Why in the world is this movie being remade!? The original was just fine. Hollywood has lost its writing chops. We are inundated with movies made upon the pretenses of old serials. It's crap I say. No wonder my wife and I do not visit the movie theaters any more.

I do enjoy, and will continue to support the local theaters though. I love live performances. YES!

The reason for all the remakes and Comic book movies is because there has been an 'on and off' writers strike in Hollywood that has been going on for some years now. The Unions in the US are surprisingly strong considering how vilified socialism is over there.

Because the real title of the movie is Kung-Fu Kid. The Karate Kid misnomer is just a way to bank on the nostalgia of a lotta people.

How many people, roughly your age (or even older), were there seeing the movie by the way?

Well, I would argue that it is a lack of creativity and thought. They ain't makin' it happen!

I was also pleasantly surprised. And nice to see a real full China - USA joint venture. I am sure they released the movie over there as well. I think we need more inter-cultural exchanges like these. Over time, that may be the thing that prevents us from developing all these heated conflicts that ruin peace.

It's also one of the first movies where Jackie Chan has played a dramatic role instead of comedy. It was interesting there was no Chan style outtakes like in his dramedy flicks. All in all a very good production in spite of it being a remake. Great scenery shots also. The only thing confusing me was the timeline. Like the other kids in the tournament had been learning all their lives in an academy but he became champ with what, 3 months of training?
