If Kasparov played on here for a year, regularly, would anybody like to conjecture as to what his rating would be?

Put another way, how much better is he than our best players on here?

Just curious

I know people who've beaten twelve times World Champion Phil Taylor at darts. When it comes down to it, champions lose games here and there, but only usually as a one-off.

However I am very impressed. Do I take it then that Kasparov would have a rating of mid 2000s?

PS Who is the world's best player now? The last time I saw chess on TV was in 1993 or 1994 when the Kasparov vs Nigel Short series was on British TV. I'm clearly out of touch.

PS I'd rather play Monica Bellucci or Giorgia Palmas than Kasparov but that's both an irrelvant and fairly pathetic thing to say so please disregard my lonely man's fantasies and enlighten me as requested.

David Tebb beat Kasparov in a simultaneous game, where Kasp was playing probably 20+ boards at once.
It's stilla great acheivement to beat him, but not as difficult as one to one.

Has any match been given much coverage since?

I'm stuggling to think of one given even a one off half an hour, let alone that much a night for a month.

Yes, it's not a big deal to beat a GM in a simul, especially if you are of Expert strength. I've beaten Shamkovitch, Walter Browne, Newel Banks and Jude Acers in simuls they gave. Doesn't mean anything.

I've also been on the other end - giving simuls, where out of 77 games I won 75 and had 2 draws, and no loses. But my rating still bounces between cass A and Expert at USCF.

There was some coverage on ESPN of Kaspy's match against X3-D Fritz.

I've checked out the ratings and Kasparov is still world no 1, although Anand (?), the Indian player is closing in on him. Couldn't find Nigel Short though...

I was surprised actually to see him still playing now. I remember as a child learning to play and when I beat my friend (rare) I'd claim to be Garry Kasparov. That was 20+ years ago. I guess Karpov quit some time ago. It was their duels which originally inspired me to start, even though I was only 7. Pity I'm no good!
