I don't think, so but cheek kisses don't seem essential.
French tradition! Also some other Countries have a similar tradition of greeting.

I have no idea about now, probably not a good time for the tradition.

There is handshaking however which shows respect for your opponent.

A rare visit to the GF I take it! 🙂

And I assume that from that came kissing a woman on the hand.

It was considered gauche in some societies to kiss on the mouth in public.

In the bedroom, it was always an erotic focus. Even now, some consider kissing, especially with the open mouth, to be too personal.

I found some interesting information on this Subject.

In what countries is a kiss an appropriate greeting?

One kiss: Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Peru, the Philippines. Two kisses: Spain, Italy, Greece, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Bosnia, Brazil (though, like France, the number can differ by region), and some Middle Eastern countries (though not between opposite sexes)

I've seen men kissing each other and women on both sides of the face here in Halifax, not sure what nationality but not White. It is just the way they greet each other when they meet ( I haven't seen it since the Pandemic though )

The earliest reference to kissing-like behavior comes from the Vedas, Sanskrit scriptures that informed Hinduism,[2] Buddhism and Jainism, around 3,500 years ago, according to Vaughn Bryant, an anthropologist at Texas A&M University who specializes in the history of the kiss.[3]

I think that “great apes” have been doing it longer than that so maybe when we “came out of the trees”, it, kissing, came with it.🤔👍

When they do it it's not for romance.
It's mostly for reconciliation and crap.

And most of the time it's the males doing it.

I just read that 🤗

Isn’t it amazing how a conversation can trigger one to explore different subjects?...Inquiring Minds, eh?🤔

Meet me in the Bong Room.

My experience is that we only tongue kiss when we are in love - that attraction disappears after a while in a relationship even when we are intimate in other ways. Kissing is precious.

I concur torunn,
A French kiss is a sign of attraction and desire and if he kisses you with so much passion, he sure wants you.
