Wasn't even close, 7-3 they got kicked by an excellent team. Still undeaten in the tourny. Still like the Dominican to win it all, against Japan, but Korea is going to have something to say about that. As for the USA, don't think they'll be a factor, at all. Have a good day.
Originally posted by jareyesCuban players have a lot of talent. Its not their fault they live under the thumb of Castro, and his regime. Too bad for them they aren't allowed to showcase it more, but that's the way Castro wants it. For the lack of equipment that they have available, as well as their fields, I think they do rather well. I visited there with a team in 96, we played 6 games against their best, 16-19 year olds. Now our kids are getting ready to accept NCAA scholarships, to play ball, or a big league has already scouted them, and their futures look bright, with regards to baseball. The Cuban kids on the other hand, are lucky if they finish high school, University for most is just a dream. Playing pro ball is nothing but a dream, and that makes me sad. Why punish these poor people who just want to play ball? They had a remarkable young fellow, 17, he played shortstop and he got to more balls than you could ever imagine. On one play he was 20' behind 3rd, he snagged a line shot, then from his knees threw out our runner at 1st, by 3 steps...wasn't even close. Comes up to bat for the first time and my pitcher is throwing high heat, low 90's and this kid takes him downtown on the first pitch. He comes up again in the 3rd, 2 on and 2 out, talked with my pitcher and decided to pitch around him. My pitcher threw him an outside pitch off the plate by 10", and only about a foot off the ground. That should be unhittable to most people, right? Wrong this kid reaches over and hits this ball like a golf shot, another homer, cleared the center field fence by 20'. Totally impressed by not only this kid, but also with what their coaches had to work with. We're used to batting cages, juggs machines, heavy balls, etc, they don't even know what we're talking about. Our team had probably 40 bats with us, 4 complete sets of catchers gear, and they show upi with 4 bats, 1 set of gear and soooo much heart. All they wanted to do was play the game, and have fun doing it. One kid had a glove that was a hand me down from his older brother, it had worn through the leather at the palm, and this kid played 1st base, taking some pretty hard throws, never heard him complain once. My kids would jump ship if they had to endure that. When we left, all our equipment stayed behind, if was our gift to them, and you know what? Our kids never missed them, and they felt good about doing it, because on the field, they're all the same, just kids who want to play ball. Sorry I rambled on, but I'm very passionate about baseball. Have a good day, and watch out for a Korea Vs Dominican final.
What do you think of Cuban baseball?
Originally posted by rbmorrisThe only reason that happens is because of the way the brackets are set up. If they were that good, then how come they don't it all every time? Don't mean to burst your bubble but open your eyes and call it for what it is, not what it isn't. If you're prepared to make that comment, kindly look at the brackets and you'll see that I'm right. I played at Williamsport as a youth and had a great time win or lose, but look at the brackets and you'll see what I mean. Have a good day.
Yeah, but the US always has a team in the finals for the Little League World Series.
Originally posted by Heavyhitter19Don't worry. I understand... it is a shame they cannot be all they can. I watched a couple of friendly matches of the Cuban national team and they were really impressive.

I enjoy baseball greatly but I'm a neophyte, so I wanted to hear the opinion of a knowledgeable person. Thanks!
P.S. There is no channel here where baseball is shown -as long as I know 😳 So I will settle for internet when it comes to Korea/D.R., damn.
Originally posted by jareyesthanks for the compliment, my head is swelling...LOL. Too bad you can't watch the games, there have been some good ones. Right now Dominicans are up 1-0 over the Venezuelans in the top of the 2nd....good baseball. Have a good day.

What no feedback??? Are you folks afraid to comment on the obvious??? Thought a topic like this would've generated more conversation, like when USA supposedly beat Japan... Fair and square, what a joke that was.
Originally posted by rbmorrisexcuse me??? I served in the US Marine Corp and defended the US, so please don't tell me I have issues with the US. I love the country very much, and my wounds prove that! What I detest are people who think they know what the hell they're talking about, and in fact haven't got a clue. Call them arrogant, or ignorant wouldn't matter if they lived here or in the US, I call them as I see them, like it or not!!! Semper Fi, if you know what that means!!!

The Korean team looks mighty impressive. I've seen a few games over here, so I've seen some of these guys play. The US now needs help to get out of the second round. In the event the US doesn't make it I'll be pulling for Korea, naturally.
