I camped ONCE in a tent since I got married. The wife didn't like that. Next we borrowed my father's camper. It had an aluminum roof, and we parked under a tree that dropped acorns all night.

Needless to say, we have not been again.

Yeah, I'm too old to enjoy the tenting aspect. Hence we bring loads of foam padding to make a cushy bed.

You should send that acorn story into the radio show "This American Life." Good humor.

It's my dad's land. The cabin lives in his imagination and materializing funds.

The land is on a lake, near Cumberland.

Ah...we found loads of huckleberries this weekend, they still are not ripe here. I was hoping for some Huckleberry Pancakes.

Oh well.

We were camping on the backside of the Sawtooth Mountains.

Found a nice set of bones for Sunburnt, it is out in the yard! A leg from a deer or elk, with all three bones still attached to each other. I'm trying to figure out what it is from exactly. 🙂

Oh yea, the kids spent two days hunting grasshoppers with their home made spears we created from sticks, pieces of shale and fishing line. Kind of like an indian's arrow but not as nice.

But I worry that with the high price of gas in the US, many people may cancel out-of-town trips and perhaps not drive at all this week-end. This might mean the death toll could be much lower than expected.

Fellow US-RHP'ers: the good folks at the NSC ...[text shortened]... on, I can pick up any member in the south Texas area in my mini-van and drive it over a cliff.
Thats alot of skulls for sunburnt.

I got three gallons yesterday... ...a bit of a disappointment. The berries were very good in places, but also very scattered and approaching the end of the season (very soft). Got rained on during the afternoon/early evening. It's a bit tough to pick berries when your fingers start getting numb, but not impossible. 😛 I'm planning to try again tomorrow. I think I need to find some at a higher elevation.

Yum, huckleberry pancakes (with a touch of vanilla).

Best recipe EVER. Put a BIG helping of huckleberries in a bowl. Microwave until the huckleberries boil and threaten to overflow. (Optional, stir in a Dove dark chocolate "Promise" at this point.) Add ice cream (vanilla or my favorite http://www.tillamookcheese.com/OurProducts/IceCream/Tillamook_Mudslide.aspx ). Eat like a pig. Repeat as necessary. 😛

EDIT: Tillamook Mudslide Description: Rich and robust chocolate ice cream underscored by chocolate fudge pieces and a thick and creamy fudge ripple.

GENIUS!

Spear for hunting grasshoppers? Does it work? Please share, I'd like to try that.

Your life sounds lovely.
