I've set up a small Lan in my flat which is connected to the internet through a (un-firewalled) router (aka an old win98 machine running lansuite). this works fine for msn and the websites etc, but one of my flatmates wants to play games over the internet. (guildwars, and something else...half life, i think...but anyway...) For somereason, this isn't working...lansuite doesn't log anything with regard to it and i really have no idea what the problem is. it said something about tcp, but the games work fine when he is connected directly to t'internet and there is no firewall on the server so i can't see what the problem would be there...

meh-anyone know anything about networking?

i would ask the lansuite people, but they're a bit anal about it unless you pay them money...

why don't you just get a wireless router? they are getting very cheap,
I got one for something like 60 bucks with a 30 dollar rebate!
It took a while to work out its bugs but now anyone with a wireless
card is in the system. I have one main comp, a laptop and a new
HP 3310 wireless all in one, no connections to the comp needed. Only
a power plug. It seems to all be working great after a bunch of
calls to product support at HP and Linksys. Seems the wireless
printer (scanner, fax, copier, printer, also shines shoes) needed
4 ports added to the router which I knew jack about till I talked to
both HP and Linksys and when I got that all done, boing everything
is up!. No wires. I used to have stupid Cat5 cables running up and down my hall to lan all the comps but wireless is a lot more
civilized!

i'm the only person in my flat with a wireless network card-my flat mates would each have to by them at about 20 pounds each, as opposed to wires that were less than 15 pounds in total, and with a bit of effort these can be made invisible.

it takes a bit more effort, a lot more time, but does the same thing and costs a fraction of the price...

i think i'll just get a comp sci student to get the game working 🙁 (lan games work fine though. 8-player unreal tournament ? waw!
