I'm really short-sighted (-3.75/-4.50) so I have to wear glasses or contact lenses all the of the time I'm awake if I want to see properly. I wear them about 65/35, two pairs of new specs every 3 years costing about three or four hundred quid, and the lenses (one-day thr ...[text shortened]... h??? Yup, that's what she said.

Thoughts, comments, snide remarks all welcome.
If I were you, I'd do it, but because of my job I can't. I was seriously considering having it done 10 years ago, until the laws changed and I wanted to keep flying. Maybe if/when I fold in my wings I might get it done, but that's a long way in the future (I hope...) From what I've read, then and now, it seems to be about 99.486% successful. You really have to consider if that small risk is worth it. I think for most people it's worth it because there's more chance of being knocked down in the street this year than the op going badly wrong in both eyes. If (God forbid) something were to go wrong, would you be able to shrug and put it down to experience and carry on? You're a teacher, right? How much do you use your eyes now? How much do you value your sight? If you can accept the risk, and all the other pro's and con's make sense to you, just go for it. I honestly think that the worst that can happen is that you'll not really be much worse off than you are now, right? At least you have the choice.

And if everything does go pear-shaped, at least you'll get a new friend (probably called Rover, or Patch)...
