@torunn saidThere are also many people who don't Celebrate Christmas or follow the traditions. Especially here in Canada where we have such a diversity of cultures.
Why, you wonder, does she want to discuss something so loved by so many? Well, do we all agree that it is a good time for most? There is hardly any other tradition that creates so much anxiety and stress. Let me have your views, please.
We are suppose to say Happy Holidays, instead of Merry Christmas. Of course I still say Merry Christmas and wish the person all the best in the New Year.

@very-rusty saidYes, but do we agree that it is good tradition to maintain? Or should it be modified in some way, more considerate and factual. As much as we would like it, too many children never have a merry Christmas for several reasons, never receive a Christmas gift.

Get rid of the material greed and it is a good holiday tradition.
We need to keep some holidays and traditions or we will have nothing.
Nobody is coming up with anything better.
They just want holidays and traditions to stop altogether because some people get their feelings hurt over nothing.
I love Thanksgiving.
I don't care if the natives don't.
I love Christmas and I'm not a Christian.
@contenchess saidSo it is a good tradition for you and your family, and that's good to know. I appreciate your views.

@torunn saidWe've held a fund raising around Christmas time, called "Christmas Daddies" since back in the early 60's which on T.V. and journalists and entertainers donate their time for free. Have raised millions of dollars over the years. I believe we were close to 1 million this year. Now there are also other charities that give to the kids. There is a Big car dealership that does a drive collecting toys each year which has grown over the years. I believe it is called "Cars are us". Family owned and I hear they now have a second location. I know the man and woman very good people. They don't want to see a boy or girl without a gift at Christmas time. So between those two big ones and many other little ones I don't think there are any children going without. We also have a food drive which I help with which feed hundreds of families each year. I think we have the spirit of giving here in Nova Scotia.

I really don't like Christmas much. It only reminds me how poor we are. If it wasn't for having a small child in the home, we'd do little to celebrate it. For almost 20 years we didn't put up a tree etc. Last year we threw away our 40 year old artificial tree. It looked bad. We bought a new tree this year.
@very-rusty saidYou live in a good place, Rusty, it warms my heart.

@torunn saidnever found it stressfull we never had a problem with cash, through good and hard times we allways made and still make the best of it.

@gambrel saidThat is a family situation I feel concerned about. So for you I understand you could do without this tradition. I have a family - children, grandchildren and a great granddaughter - and we hardly ever manage to get together for Christmas. It's not always want of money but rather commitment. I haven't seen many happy Christmas Eves.

@torunn saidThe smiles on families faces are worth more than any amount of money. Some new families who are from war torn countries who have immigrated here tell me I am so kind. I tell them that hundreds or thousands of people are involved. I just have the honor of bringing it to them as a volunteer. It really is very heart warming and rewarding.

@very-rusty saidA very good thing to do. We have charity work here too, but we live in a big city and anonymity risks to leave many people out of it. Especially hard on the children.
