But why do we always expect more? England generally play at this level on a consistent basis, so you just have to accept we are that poor.

You mean like when we beat Argentina and Denmark in the World Cup? And Germany in the qualifiers beforehand? I think you will find that we are just a relatively inconsistent team. Who knows, we may beat Turkey on Wednesday (that was not sarcasm)

England will beat Turkey and win group 7! Playing Liechtenstein they were undoubtably crap but playing a bad team never brings the best from our, or anyone elses, players. The pitch at Liechtenstein was obviously too narrow and England found it hard to play fluent football but we all know Englangs strength lays in the midfield. At the stadium of Light it will be a diffirent type of game completely. This may be optimistic by I say the score on Wednesday will be:

ENGLAND 3-1 TURKEY 😀

That is my point, we hang on to the dream. The German game we played well, took our chances and they were poor defensivley on the night. Argentina should have at least scored an equaliser, they pummled our goal for 25 mins as we tried deperatley to hold on - why could we not play the ball out of defense keep the ball and take the pressure off? As for Denmark, well they were just plain poor. And then there was Brazil, all that time against 10 men and not one shot on goal.

Any team can get a result on the day, it is the consistent performance that wins things.

Generally inconsistent teams finish in mid table (i.e. Blackburn) or potential relegatin (i.e. Leeds). Both teams have good players, but they are inconsistent.

heheh-the pitch wasn't too wide, it was regulation size! i once played on a regulation rugby pitch-and our prop sprinted (well, sorta sprinted) the lenght of it! anyway-their national stadium wouldn't get into the scottish premier league! 5000 capactity minumum! anyway, football isn't all about scoring goals (well, maybe it is...😛) but maybe they were a defensive team? also-think yourself lucky, when we played the pharoh isles, we drew with them-just! AND they feilded a semi-professianl player that played for a second-division dutch side-that just isn't fair!

Leeds don't have any good players?!

Who's: Alan Smith
Paul Robinson
Harry Kewell
Ian Harte
James Milner

I could say more but I seriously can't be bothered.

Alan Smith is not a good striker compared to anyone in the premier league, plus he is a thug.
Paul Robinson is only making a lot of saves because he plays for a poor club, there are many better.
Harry Kewell is a good player, but he has lost a lot of form through repeated injury.
Ian Harte can take free kicks well, buut he cannot defend. Hence, he didn't play much in the World Cup for Ireland.
James Milner is a teenager, so has no experience and has shown precious little ability, hence he cannot get into an already poor Leeds team regularly.
I rest my case

Well this is exactly what I tried to say ... although I was surprised that I wrote a post yesterday 😀 (was on a pub tour)

But I believe it's going to be tighter ... 1 0 for England

Alan Smith is a good potential goal scorer.
Paul Robinson is a great goalie and you don't have to be at a good club to prove yourself properly.
Despite repeating injuries, Harry Kewell still has that touch of class.
Ian Harte... well I suppose you're right about him.
James Milner is an exciting prospect for the future.
