Anyone have a stone/fireplace expert by any chance?

I have a limestone fireplace over which I broke one of those oil filled floating thermometer things tonight. The clear oil sinks in and changes the shade of the limestone.

Any informed ideas would be very appreciated...

    Thanks.

I'm not one for coincidences, but I'm looking there too.

Maybe try one of the following:

    bleach
    Lemon-scented toilet bowl cleaner
    Windex
    Draino
    Draino and Windex together
    WD-40
    regular vinegar
    Sandpaper
    sandblasting
    Acetone
    The sun
    Tomato sauce
Toss the fireplace and get a new one

Something GKR missed on his list: get a whole lot more of those oily thermometer thingies and break them at different spots on the fireplace. Create a work of art!
