Linda Anita Carty (born 5 October 1958) is a convicted murderer from St. Kitts currently on death row at the Mountain View Unit in the state of Texas.[1] She was sentenced to death in 2002 for abducting and murdering Joana Rodriguez, allegedly to steal her four-day-old son. Carty was born in St. Kitts when it was still a British colony and therefore holds British citizenship, although she has lived in the United States since the early 1980s.
On September 19, 2009, Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Carty appeal, it's likely an execution date will be sought for her early next year, according Roe Wilson, an assistant district attorney who handles Harris County capital case appeals. Only the United States Supreme court and the governor of Texas could give a reprieve to Carty, which are usually rejected.[2]
According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice:
On 05/16/2001 Carty and three co-defendants [Gerald Anderson, Chris Robinson, and Carlos Williams] invaded the home of a 25 year old female. The victim and her three day old baby were kidnapped and two other victims were beaten, duct taped, and left in the residence. The 25 year old female was hog-tied with duct tape, a bag was taped over her head, and she was placed in the trunk of a car. This victim died from suffocation.[3]
Carty has claimed that she was framed by three men for her work as an informant with the Drug Enforcement Administration.[4][5] Anderson, Robinson, and Williams, the others co-defendants in the kidnapping and murder, were given prison terms but none received the death penalty after testifying against Carty.[5] Should her appeal fail, her remaining hopes lie only with the British people and government, a nation in which many people oppose capital punishment. If she is unsuccessful in canvassing support and overturning her conviction or being granted clemency, she faces execution by lethal injection.[6] Carty was convicted in Harris County, Texas, a county that has executed more convicted murderers than any U.S. state.[7] Her case received media attention in September 2009 when her image was placed on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square by her British supporters.[4][8]
The attornies handling Carty's appeal have argued that her trial attorney did not handle her defense well.[9] On 26 February 2010 they appealed to the Supreme Court, the British Government lodging an amicus brief.[10]

There was initially dispute over whether that had been done or not. Anyone, American or British is entitled to the same, or do you suggest differently?
you send your killers over here and you want us to give them special treatment because they're british?
Originally posted by Sam The ShamIt's an outrage that a judicial process of appeal should have a chance to be followed and her guilt confirmed before that execution carried out? Tell you what, why not save the US taxpayer money and have you sitting up there in court. Wheel in a person and tell you what they're accused of. You can then decide how dreadful that accusation sounds and pass sentence. I mean who needs evidence and due process? Child murder? That makes me sick, feed her to the dogs!
Considering the horrendous nature of her crime I think it's an outrage she hasn't been executed sooner.
The video made me sick...."A former Sunday School Teacher"...LOL just media manipulation for the simple minded.

Originally posted by Sam The ShamYou seemed to be suggesting that how disgusting the crime was to you, the quicker the execution should be carried out. Since there is doubt over whether the conviction was safe and the original appeal conducted correctly, I fail to see why the urgency of her execution should matter based on the crime involved.
