My computer just screwed up on me for no reason. After the start screen (with the windows logo) it fails to show the login screen saying there is a bad image.

This is a total pain.

Is there a way of fixing without using the recovery disc? I'm sure there was a way to restore from a previous point, but i forgot how to do it....any help appreciated.

Accessories -> System tools -> System restore

but that only works if you can get on. There's supposed to be something you can do while it's booting, but I forget what.

Windows Vista, if I'm not mistaken lets you go back to a date where things were working.

You'll have to convince your computer that the image isn't that bad. Not an easy task.

Ah. The image really isn't bad; it just had a rough childhood.

Using the wife's laptop, angry puss 😛

Of course, if i had marked the recovery disk as "put in an obvious place in case of emergencies" when we moved to the new house, this would not be a big problem.

Got it back. Found the disk but not the box. I'm lucky that a restore point worked, or i'dve been in big trouble. Need to find the box just in case.

Are u going to restore the garden?

Let it grow, let it grow; thru the grass, 'cross the snow.

Restore points are normally where trojans hide.

You bring them back. 😉

If bringing back the trojan is the cost of getting my videos out and playing my games...then trojaway.

If AVG doesn't catch it, there's not a lot i can do anyway.
